Elizabeth Feinler, born in 1931, is a trailblazing information scientist whose work laid the foundation for the modern internet. After graduating from West Liberty University in 1954, she joined the Chemical Abstracts Service and later SRI International, where she became part of Dr. Douglas Engelbart’s Augmentation Research Center in 1972. Her team pioneered the ARPANET and Domain Name System (DNN), effectively shaping the structure of the internet. They also developed the first online yellow and white page directories and created the top-level domain naming scheme. Feinler played a key role in expanding networking to NSF and NASA sites and was honored as a Delegate at Large to the White House Conference on Libraries and Information Centers. In 2000, she was inducted into the SRI Alumni Hall of Fame.
