Joy Buolamwini, born on January 23, 1990, is a pioneering computer scientist and advocate for ethical AI. She studied computer science at Georgia Tech, where she was a Stamps President Scholar and the youngest finalist of the Inventure Prize in 2009. She earned her master's in Media Arts & Sciences from MIT in 2017 and completed her PhD there in 2022. Her groundbreaking research has significantly advanced efforts to reduce bias in artificial intelligence. Beyond academia, she contributed to global health and education initiatives, including developing an Android-based assessment system for Ethiopia's trachoma program and empowering Zambian youth through technology.
